Four Tools for Escape

Four Tools for Escape

Tip Courtesy of Nationwide

In the event of an accident, these products will help you escape from your car or truck as quickly as possible, even if it is submerged in a body of water:

ResQMe ($12.95) is a convenient keychain rescue tool that fits in the palm of your hand and can cut through seatbelts and break glass.

LifeHammer ($19.95) does the same but is larger (6.75 inches) and can be mounted to the inside of your car for easy reach.

From Benchmade, the ERT-1 (MSRP $40) can also cut seatbelts and break glass but also provides LED light with the click of a button.

The 4-in-1 SafetyStick Emergency Tool & Flashlight ($19.95) has a flashlight, seatbelt cutter and steel-pointed glass-break hammer, and also includes flashing red LED strobes to alert oncoming motorists of emergency situations, plus a magnet for attaching to a metal vehicle part.

Milkweed Wind Indicators
We've all seen hunters use powder to check the wind direction. Here is something we use here in Pennsylvania that I believe to be a better option. I use the seeds from a milkweed pod. The seeds inside of the pod are similar to the seeds of a dandel...

Offensive Odor Oversight
When preparing for a big hunt, most hunters work hard and spend a lot of money trying to stay scent-free. We wash our clothes in special detergents, use hunting shampoos, dress in the latest carbon fiber clothing and spray ourselves down with odor ...

Smart Hunters Use Smartphones
When I first started hunting, I was always with my fiancé, and I never worried about the need to contact someone if something should happen. Now that I've grown as an outdoorswoman and I'm hunting by myself, I like the peace of mind that comes from...

Open the Deer Gate
Throughout my years of hunting, I've noticed deer can be pretty lazy at times. When it comes to jumping over or crawling underneath obstructions, they seem to prefer the path of least resistance. This is especially true when the obstacles are ditches...

Field Glasses Hat Trick
Here's a tip many hunters from east of the Mississippi might not know about. I'm from Oregon, and I've noticed other hunters from the western United States use this trick frequently because long range hunting requires holding binoculars steady and...

European Chef's Vinegar Tip
When I'm not hunting, I work as a commercial electrician and I've wired many fancy restaurants. About 35 years ago, I had the good fortune to design a kitchen for a chef from Europe. He was fascinated by the fact I was a bowhunter, and said he rou...

Wooden Pallet Hunting Blind
Wooden pallets are one of the cheapest and most accessible materials you can use to construct ground blinds. Many companies have their pallets burned or hauled away, so they are more than happy to give you what you need.

Ice Chest = Scent-free Storage
With all the time, money and effort hunters spend trying to keep clothes scent-free, we usually end up storing them in something that isn't even airtight. Those large, plastic storage tubs with lids that we shove our clothes into certainly aren't ...

Ratchet Up Archery Targets
If you're like most hunters these days, you try to save money wherever you can. As much as we shoot our bows in preparation for archery season, we can go through archery targets pretty fast, especially using broadheads. If you own a layered style ...

Dog Food Bag Archery Target
Here's a great way to construct archery targets for field-tipped arrows by using empty dog food bags. You'll need two large dog food bags, the type that have an inside lining reinforced with plastic or a fiber grid, not just the paper kind. Open th...
