Increase in fall monitoring as new CWD cases found

Final results from Missouri’s 2015‐2016 fall and winter testing of nearly 7,700 free ranging deer for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) show seven deer confirmed positive for the fatal deer disease. Three were from Adair County, two from Macon County, one from Linn County and one from Franklin County (reported earlier in the year).

Phase 2 sampling finds 2 more CWD positive deer

Two additional deer have tested positive for chronic wasting disease in Arkansas. A deer in Madison County and another deer in Pope County were positive for the fatal disease. Both deer were road-kills reported by the public.

Ohio youth turkey weekend harvest sees small drop

Many young hunters found success during Ohio’s 2016 youth spring wild turkey season after 1,564 birds were harvested. Hunters age 17 and under were eligible to participate in the two-day season, April 16-17. The total harvest was a slight decrease from 2015, when 1,589 wild turkeys were checked.

Arkansas updates CWD results, adds 23 more

Another 23 cases of chronic wasting disease among deer and elk in northern Arkansas have been confirmed by the Game and Fish Commission, which brings the total cases to 79. Young turkey hunters harvested 4,145 birds during the April 9-10, 2016, spring youth season, with Callaway, Franklin and Green as the top harvest counties in preliminary data.

NY sees second largest bear harvest in 2015

New York’s bear hunters took 1,715 black bears during the 2015 hunting seasons, the second largest bear harvest on record in the state. Only the 2003 harvest of 1,863 bears is larger.
