Hunter and turkey numbers decline in fall firearms season

Hunters checked 3,698 turkeys during Missouri’s fall firearms turkey season, Oct. 1 through 31. Last year’s fall firearms turkey harvest total was 6,158.
Top harvest counties for the 2016 fall firearms turkey season were Greene with 128, Franklin with 96, and Wayne with 92.

Despite poor weather, youth hunters successful

Young hunters harvested 246 deer during the 2016 Youth Deer Hunt Weekend, down 37 percent from the official 2015 total of 391.
The preliminary total does not include information from all registration stations. The 2016 total is below the average since the special youth deer hunt began in 1999.

Early youth season hunters check 11,171 deer

Young hunters ages 6 through 15 checked 11,171 deer Oct. 29 and 30, during Missouri’s early youth portion of the 2016 deer hunting season.
