Spring turkey license sales open March 1

Spring turkey license sales open March 1

By Minnesota Department of Natural Resources

Spring turkey hunters can purchase licenses beginning March 1, and they may be purchased online, in person and by telephone.

Turkey season dates are from April 14 to May 31. Firearms season for hunters 18 and older is divided into six hunt periods, A through F. Youth and archery-only license holders may hunt the entire season.

Hunters hoping to bag a tom turkey with a firearm this spring will see similar regulations as last year, and will not be restricted to a single permit area. A spring turkey license will provide the opportunity to hunt all permit areas in the state, with the exception of the three high-demand major wildlife management areas that require a separate permit.

The deadline to apply for the lottery for Mille Lacs, Carlos Avery or Whitewater WMAs is Friday, Feb. 12 to hunt during seasons A through C.

Successful applicants may hunt statewide, with the exception of the other two lottery areas, in addition to their selected wildlife management area.

Turkey lottery applications for the Mille Lacs, Carlos Avery or Whitewater WMAs cost $5 and can be purchased by phone at (888)665-4236, in person from a license agent or online.

If successful in the lottery, hunters will receive a notice by mail and can purchase a hunting license starting March 1.

Complete details for the spring 2021 wild turkey hunting season and the permit application process are available by downloading and viewing the hunt rules.
