Hunters required to register their deer

Hunters required to register their deer

By Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources

Hunters are being reminded that all harvested deer must be registered electronically by 5 p.m. the day after the deer is recovered.

When registering, hunters are encouraged to use GameReg, a registration system that collects harvest information from the hunter and provides a confirmation number for the hunter’s records.

Hunters have three options to register their deer. The fastest and easiest option is to register online at GameReg.WI.Gov.

Hunters need their tag number or harvest authorization number to begin the registration process, which can also be done by calling (844)426-3734. Find county codes for phone-in registration here.

In-person registration can be done at any deer/bear registration station that provides a phone or computer for public use. Locate one here.

Deer harvest authorization numbers are required; each harvest authorization has a unique number, so hunters should use the harvest authorization number from the specific harvest authorization they wish to fill. The harvest authorization number can be found on either the paper copy or PDF file of the harvest authorization.

Hunters can access their harvest authorization number and register online through the My GameReg section of their Go Wild account at GoWild.WI.Gov. To begin the registration process, locate the harvest authorization and click on the link.

The registration system will prompt hunters to answer a series of questions such as the deer management unit in which the deer was harvested, the age (adult or fawn), sex (buck or doe) of the deer and weapon type used to harvest the animal.

Hunters will receive a 10-character confirmation number for their records once the deer has been successfully registered.

Visit the DNR webpage for more information regarding electronic registration.
