180,000+ deer tags are in the mail

By South Carolina Department of Natural Resources

Deer tags have been printed and are now arriving in resident and nonresident hunters’ mailboxes.

With more than 180,000 sets of tags being mailed and, because of production limits, only a portion of the tags will be mailed each day.

Some hunters, including nonresident hunters, have already received their gags, while others may not receive their tags until the second week of August.

South Carolina residents who currently have an active hunting license and big game permit that will be valid when deer season begins August 15 will automatically receive a base set of deer tags at no cost.

Additionally, anyone who ordered additional tags or requested a set of tags since July 1 is in the system, and those tags are being produced, as well, DNR officials report.

Hunters are asked to wait until at least August 9 before inquiring about the status of tags.
