Early youth season hunters check 11,171 deer

Young hunters ages 6 through 15 checked 11,171 deer Oct. 29 and 30, during Missouri’s early youth portion of the 2016 deer hunting season.

Top counties for the early youth portion were Osage with 253, Howell with 246, and Franklin with 242 deer checked. The total number was less than last year’s harvest total for the early youth portion which was 13,583.

Archery deer hunting continues through Nov. 11, and from Nov. 23 through Jan. 15.

Missouri’s firearms deer season is Nov. 12 through 22, followed by the late youth portion of firearms deer season Nov. 25-27. The antlerless portion of firearms deer season runs Dec. 2-4. The alternative methods portion runs from Dec. 24 to Jan. 3.
