New Women’s XBow World Record

New Women’s XBow World Record

By Patrick Dunning

Trisha Lucius was introduced to whitetail hunting three years ago by her husband and harvested her first deer, a spike, and a doe during Ohio’s 2020 season.

“The first deer I ever shot was a spike with my crossbow,” Trisha said. “After feeling that adrenaline rush, I told my husband I’d never get mad at him for going hunting anymore because I completely understand now.”

Trisha has come a long way since then, and her husband Brian Lucius is every emotion but mad now that she holds the world record among women in BTR’s semi-irregular category for crossbow, and the #3 crossbow-felled buck in the world (all categories) after harvesting a 210-inch brute in Wyandot County.

Brian had every intention of taking this 17-pointer, nicknamed Brutus, but opted to watch the kids while Trisha headed afield for an afternoon box-blind sit in early October.

“We had him on our trail camera the night before, and my husband originally wanted to take him so I offered to stay with the kids while he went hunting,” Trisha told Buckmasters. “But, he said I could go and that he’d stay with the kids.”

“I want him on my wall,” Brian affirmed.

Deer movement was sparse that afternoon until about 30 minutes before dark when a doe showed face, and just before last shooting light Brutus daylighted between a tree line and standing bean field to the left of Trisha’s blind, walking in the direction of the lone doe.

“He’d take a couple steps, stop. Take a couple more steps, stop. I was shaking like a leaf and all I could think about was not messing this up,” Trisha said. “I double lunged him broadside between two trees, heard the schwack and he took off to my right.”

Trisha was shaking so bad after the shot she physically couldn’t text Brian and called him to tell him the news.

Brutus’ rack features matching 28-inch main beams and 6-inch brow tines to go with a 20 4/8 inch inside spread. Buckmasters master scorer Lori Hughes measured this world record 210 inches for BTR’s semi-irregular category.
