One of 2015's New World Records

By Mike Handley

Lois Jenkins's boyfriend, Tim Crabtree, knew a world-class whitetail roamed his hunting area. He believes he shot the deer's brother in January 2012, when both - then 2 1/2-year-olds - wore 160-inch racks.

The survivor packed on another 20 inches before the 2012 season, and it was bigger still in 2013 and 2014. Tim wasn't able to spend much time afield in those days because he was caring for his wife, who had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

She died the following spring.

By the time Ohio's 2015 season approached, Tim and Lois were dating, and they share a passion for deer hunting.

Tim burned his tag during the first evening in a stand. Lois's chance came on Oct. 22.

When the bull of the woods - known to them from years of trail camera photographs - sauntered into view, Lois turned to Tim and whispered, "Is it okay for me to shoot that deer?"

"Absolutely," he replied.

And shoot it she did, even switching her crossbow to her left land because of the deer's position.

The Jackson County 15-pointer reset the bar for crossbow harvests. With a BTR composite score of 202 5/8 inches, it's the new world-record Typical in that category. Tim's story about the hunt will appear in Rack magazine.
