WI wild turkey harvest registration changes

From Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources

-- Starting with the fall turkey season, the process for registering turkey harvest in Wisconsin changes considerably with online or phone-in options for hunters.

The previous system required hunters to transport their turkey to a local registration station. Hunters can now register their turkey remotely through the DNR website or via the Harvest Registration Hotline. No in-person registration stations will be available.

All harvested turkeys must be registered by calling the Harvest Registration Hotline at (888)486-8947 from a touchtone phone, or online at http://dnr.wi.gov/.

Hunters will be asked to record a harvest registration confirmation number on their hunting permit at the end of the call or online session. Hunters will still have until 5 p.m. on the day after harvest to register their turkey.

Part of the registration process involves determining the age and sex of the harvested turkey. Refer to page 18 of the 2011 Wisconsin Small Game Hunting Regulations booklet for an illustration or visit http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/wildlife/hunt/turkey/agesex.pdf.
