From the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department

-- The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department announces the creation of a Ladies Only Bow Hunter Education class that will be instructed by a woman.

The Ladies Only Bow Hunter Education class will be held Saturday, Aug.8 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Edward Kehoe Conservation Camp in Castleton, Vt. Registration is required and will be open July 13.Residents can call (802)241-3720 or email
ann.shangraw@state.vt.us.

“We are excited that we have several, very experienced and knowledgeable, female instructors in both hunter education and aquatic programs such as Let’s Go Fishing,” said Information Specialist Ann Shangraw. “We’re adding an average of two female instructors a year, and it’s our goal to increase this average.  Typically, learning experiences are enhanced for women when taught by the same gender.  Everyone should feel completely comfortable in a learning environment, and that’s what we’re trying to provide.”

Demands have increased during the last year for women’s programs, ranging from ice fishing and Doe Camp to Becoming an Outdoors Woman, according to Shangraw.
