Tennessee seeking public comment on bear archery season

From the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency

-- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission is still seeking public comment concerning the bear archery season.
At the May commission meeting, the TWRC reduced the 2010-11 bear archery season to three weeks from the proposed five week season in Blount, Carter, Cocke, Greene, Jefferson, Johnson, Monroe, Polk, Sevier, Sullivan, Unicoi, and Washington counties.
The change was in response to discussions related to calls some commissioners received about the length of the bear archery season. While there was similar discussion at the April TWRC meeting, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency did not recommend shortening the bear archery hunting season at the May commission meeting.

In reference to that change, Mike Chase, TWRC Chairman,  was concerned ample notice of the change may not have been adequate. Hunters may send their comments online to or by regular mail to Bear Archery Season Comments, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, P.O. Box 40747, Nashville, TN 37204.
