A week ago on Sunday I closed my 2007 deer season.  I had one any deer tag and 3 antlerless tags.

I filled both archery tags (any deer and antlerless) in earlier fall.  As rifle season opened, I took one deer on Thanksgiving and my final last Sunday.  I disappointed myself on Thanksgiving, by harvesting a legal deer, but a button buck all the same.  I never took pictures of my rifle harvests.  Here are the pictures of my archery harvests!

All together, I estimate that I brought home 190 lbs of meat (no bone just meat).

This is the first time since I started archery hunting that I've filled all deer tags that I've purchased!

You can see from the doe picture, I hit her high.  I instinctively put the 20 yard pin on a close shot that should have been a 10 yard pin :(  The result was that I had to put another arrow in her to finish her off.

Regardless, it was a great year that I'm proud of.  I'll post the picture of the muley mount when I get him back!

Rebel,

The spine shot dropped her in her tracks. However, she stared right up at me for a moment or two. I didn't want her to suffer more than she had to, so I opted to put another in her when she gave me an open rib shot. That one didn't miss it's mark. She expired within a minute of that one. Both of those arrows ended up broken, but she was worth it.

I consider a live animal still a danger, even a wounded doe. I'd rather put her down from a distance than wrestle with a knife. In addition, I would have to climb down, and leave her suffering while I got ready to put her out of her misery.

So that's what happened, and why I did what I did. I hope your season was as good as mine!
