From the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources
-- Registration is underway for Kentucky's annual Becoming an Outdoors Woman workshop on Lake Cumberland Sept. 17-19 at the 4-H Leadership Center in Jabez.
The program is sponsored by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. Registration forms are available online at http://fw.ky.gov/pdf/bowreg0910.pdf or by calling Kentucky Fish and Wildlife on weekdays at (800)858-1549.
The BOW workshop gives women the opportunity to learn skills that will improve their knowledge and enjoyment of nature.
It has introduced thousands of women 18 and older to outdoor experiences such as fishing, shooting, nature photography, wildlife identification, landscaping with native plants, canoeing and boating, turkey and deer hunting, survival and archery. Participants may select from nearly 30 different classes.
In addition to seminars, the $200 per person registration fee includes six meals and dorm-style accommodations. Those who register by July 30 can receive the $185 early bird rate.
Some special courses are limited in the number of participants and may require an additional fee. The BOW weekend is limited to 150 participants, and early registration is suggested.
BOW is designed for beginners to learn useful outdoor skills and for women who want to raise their comfort level being in the woods or on the water.
Kentucky's BOW program also receives support from the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Federal Ammunition, Remington Firearms, Lodge Cookware, Canoe Kentucky and the Kentucky Network of Outdoor Women.
