-- Young hunters can register now for the annual youth-only turkey hunt March 26 at Cheatham WMA with its more than 20,000 acres of prime wild turkey habitat.
The hunt is only open to juveniles between the ages of 6 to 16.
Hosts for the hunt are the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and Young Sportsman Foundation, along with local state chapters of the National Wild Turkey Federation and Quail Unlimited.
Participants 10 years and older must have successfully completed the hunter education class and must have the appropriate licenses and permits.
Volunteers 18 and older who have turkey hunting skills are needed to serve as mentors and share the experience.
There will be a cookout and campout for volunteers and participants March 25. Lunch will be provided March 26. Door prizes will also be given to the young hunters attending.
