From Nebraska Game and Parks Commission
-- Meat processors may obtain an application for participation in the new Hunters Helping the Hungry program. Applications will be accepted through Aug. 31.
The program will contract processors to produce ground venison from donated deer for distribution by food banks. Cash donations may be made at any time.
Only custom-exempt meat processors inspected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture or the Nebraska Department of Agriculture are eligible to apply. Processors may obtain an application and anyone can make a tax-deductable donation at http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/hunting/programs/HHH/index.asp.
The number of deer to be processed will be determined by available funds as of Sept. 1.
Contracted processors may accept donated deer starting Nov. 10.
Hunters Helping the Hungry was created in April with the Nebraska Legislature’s passage of LB 928. For more information, contact Teresa Lombard by calling (402)471-5430 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
