From New York Dept. of Environmental Conservation
-- Hunters took approximately 243,000 deer during the 2012-13 hunting seasons, an increase of 6 percent over the previous year. There were 124,000 antlerless deer and 119,000 adult bucks harvested.
Harvest numbers reflect deer populations are greater than desired levels in many parts of the state, sand an increased take of antlerless deer will be necessary in 2013.
Increases for 2012 were most pronounced in the Northern Zone where the total of 30,840 deer taken increased 15 percent from 2011. In the Southern Zone, the adult buck take of 98,570 increased 6 percent, and the antlerless harvest of 110,900 deer increased 5 percent from 2011.
