NJ Deer Classic planned Jan. 17

From the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife

-- Dozens of outstanding white-tailed deer taken during New Jersey's 2008-09 hunting seasons will be available for viewing at the Garden State Outdoor Sportsmen's Show and Deer Classic Jan. 14 - 17 at Raritan Center, Edison.

The year's top entries will be recognized at the Deer Classic Awards Program on Jan. 17 at 2:30 p.m.

The Division of Fish and Wildlife will have a large display area at the show, where hunting and fishing licenses will be available for purchase and visitors will have the opportunity to speak with biologists representing different areas of expertise.

Division biologists will also be presenting programs on bass fishing and deer hunting in New Jersey. A bow and arrow range staffed by certified Hunter Education instructors will provide an opportunity for participants to try their hand at shooting a crossbow. The range is free and open to anyone 10 years and older.

The Garden State Deer Classic is sponsored by the New Jersey State Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs, United Bowhunters of New Jersey, New Jersey Outdoor Alliance Conservation Foundation and the Garden State Outdoor Sportsmen's Show.
