From the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department
-- Up to 4,000 hunters will be allowed to purchase Special Antlerless Deer Permits for Unit M in southeastern New Hampshire this fall.
At the time of purchase, hunters may opt for a permit with one deer tag for $13 or two deer tags for $26. Permits can be purchased at Fish and Game headquarters in Concord. If purchasing by mail, request an application by calling (603)271-3422 or print the form at http://www.huntnh.com/Hunting/Unit_M_permits.htm.
Online permit purchases can be made at http://www.nhfishandgame.com/.
Unit M permits are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants also must hold a current New Hampshire hunting or archery license. Muzzleloader and firearms hunters may use the special permit on any day for which they are legally licensed. Archers may use the permit Oct. 1 through Dec. 15.
Special Unit M Antlerless Deer Permits are not valid for use by archers during September, because of a statewide requirement that only antlered deer may be taken by bow and arrow in September. Youth hunters are eligible to buy Unit M permits.
Special Unit M permits have been issued in New Hampshire since 1997 as part of the Big Game Management Plan to reduce deer numbers in southeastern New Hampshire sustain regional herd health as well as minimize deer-human conflict, such as vehicle collisions and destructive browsing of agricultural and ornamental plants.
Specific boundaries for Unit M can be found at http://www.huntnh.com/Hunting/Unit_M_permits.htm.
