Nebraska fall turkey season opens Sept. 15

From Nebraska Game and Parks Commission

-- Nebraska's fall turkey season opens Sept. 15 with abundant turkey population and hunting opportunities across the state.

Hunters may shoot turkeys with a fall turkey or youth fall turkey permit, which allows the take of two turkeys, through Dec. 31 with either archery equipment or shotgun.

Fall turkey permits are $24 for residents, $91 for nonresidents and $6 for youth younger than 16 years, residents and nonresidents, including issuing fee.

Fall turkey hunters are required to wear at least 400 square inches of hunter orange on their head, chest and back when hunting during the November firearm season Nov. 12 to 20,  and the Earn-a-Buck deer seasons Nov. 12-22.

Permits may be purchased online at http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/hunting/guides/biggame/turkey/BGturkey.asp.

In 2010 hunters bought 12,241 fall permits and had a success rate of 84.6 percent while harvesting 10,356 turkeys.
