Nebraska awarded $1 million state wildlife grant

From the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission

-- The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has been awarded a $1 million grant by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service through the State Wildlife Grants Competitive Program.

The funds will be used to further implement the Nebraska Natural Legacy Project: Phase III.

The project, also known as Nebraska's state wildlife action plan, will carry out conservation partnerships and actions on private and public lands to enhance and improve native prairies, wetlands and woodlands for the benefit of species of greatest conservation need.

Only five of the other 21 applications were awarded grants for 2010. The Commission also will receive a match of $333,333 in nonfederal funds.
