From the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks
-- Register by March 25 for a special turkey hunt near Council Grove April 3.
The hunt is sponsored by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks in cooperation with area chapters of the National Wild Turkey Federation and Quail and Upland Wildlife Federation, as well as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Youth must be age 11 through 16 to apply for the Pass It On program designed to recruit young hunters. To register, or for more information, call Brent Konen at (620)767-5900.
Many young Kansans have never hunted turkeys, but prospects are excellent in the Sunflower State. Participants in the hunt will pattern their shotguns and scout for turkeys the evening before the hunt. The morning of the hunt, they will be guided on public and private land. The event will also include door prizes, a turkey hunting presentation and a hunter’s breakfast and lunch. Lodging is available in nearby Council Grove, and camping is available at Council Grove Reservoir.
