Louisiana Commission adjusts deer season dates

From the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries

-- The Wildlife and Fisheries Commission’s recent meeting agenda included adjustments to notices of intent for the 2010-12 hunting seasons and the 2010-11 Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) General Rules and Regulations.

The amendment to the original notice of intent that provided alternative deer season hunting dates in Areas 1 and 6 for the 2010-2012 Hunting Seasons, was rescinded. This reinstated the Area 1 and 6 dates, available at .

The Commission also heard the U.S. Forest Service proposed deer season dates for Kisatchie National Forest for the 2010-2011 season, which provided for still hunting only within all of Kisatchie National Forest’s Ranger Districts.

The commission amended the department’s notice of intent to include a with or without dog season in the Catahoula Ranger District, the Winn Ranger District, the Kisatchie Ranger District, and the Evangeline Unit of the Calcasieu Ranger District using the same framework utilized for the 2009-10 deer season. With calendar adjustments, those dates in 2010-11 include the following:

-- Primitive firearms, Either sex--Oct. 23-24, still hunt only.

-- Either sex--Oct. 30-31, Nov. 1 and Nov. 26, still hunt only.

-- Bucks only--Nov. 1, 6-7, 13-14, 20-25 and 27-28; Dec. 4-5 and 11-12, and Dec. 31-Jan 2, 7-9, still hunt only.
