From the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission
-- Because of a request by the US Forest Service, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission approved a declaration of emergency July 2 to eliminate the need for a special permit to hunt with dogs on Kisatchie National Forest, and the requirement that hunters use electronic tracking collars and other forms of identification on their dogs.
The declaration of emergency also changes the opening date of primitive weapon season to coincide with the Area 2 deer season.
The deer season with or without dogs will remain Dec. 19-24 and Dec. 26-27, as previously approved.
By further action, the commission approved a notice of intent to make permanent the actions taken by declaration of emergency.
Public comment on the notice of intent will be taken until Nov. 4, 2009. Written comments may be sent to Randy Myers, Wildlife Division, Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, P.O. Box 98000, Baton Rouge, LA 70898-9000 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
