-- YOUTH DEER HUNT:
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources will conduct a drawing Sun., Sept. 21 for three young people to hunt deer at Coffeen Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area in Montgomery Co. during the 2008 Youth Deer Hunt scheduled for Oct. 11-12.
The special youth hunt will take place at the Coffeen Lake SFWA Upland Management Area. To participate in the hunt, applicants must have a valid Montgomery Co. Youth Deer Hunt Firearm Permit.
Youth Deer Hunt permit applications are available online through the IDNR website at http://dnr.state.il.us (click on the Hunting button on the home page). To be eligible for the site drawing, applicants should send a 3" by 5" postcard with the youth's name, mailing address, telephone number and Montgomery County Youth Deer Hunt Permit number to the Coffeen Lake site office by close of business on Sept. 19.
The site mailing address is: Coffeen Lake SFWA, PO Box 517, Coffeen, IL 62017. Late applications will not be accepted.

-- YOUTH WATERFOWL HUNTS:
Applications are now being accepted for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources 2008 Youth Waterfowl Hunts. Application forms and detailed information are available on the IDNR website at http://dnr.state.il.us (click on the Hunting button on the home page). The deadline to apply is Oct. 10, 2008.
The Youth Duck Hunts will be held at Spring Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area (Spring Lake Bottoms Unit) on Sun., Nov. 9 and at Donnelley/DePue State Fish and Wildlife Area on Sat. and Sun., Nov. 15-16.
The Youth Goose Hunt is at the Union County State Fish and Wildlife Area, Horseshoe Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area (Alexander Co.) and at participating clubs in southern Illinois on Mon. and Tues., Dec. 29-30.
Applicants must be ages 10-15 at the time of the hunt, and may apply for only one Youth Duck Hunt permit and/or only one Youth Goose Hunt permit. Prior years' youth hunters may apply but a preference is given to first-time applicants.
Each permit holder must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or responsible adult. For more information, contact the IDNR Special Events office at 217-785-8060.
