I got my first big buck on a Saturday morning in December while I was hunting with my cousins on the farm. I got up in my tree before daylight and waited.
Just as daylight broke, I loaded my .243 and there he was. What a monster buck, I thought. It was still early so I let him go. About an hour later, he returned and wandered into the thicket again. He came back out of the thicket again, and I sat and watched.
I thought I had missed my shot, but there he was again, across the field coming out onto the road. I got a good aim, and pulled the trigger. He dropped in his tracks. I was so nervous!
He was a good six-point deer with a 17 1/2-inch spread. He weighed 150 pounds field dressed.
