Enrollment deadline for NE Access Programs is June 11

From the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission

-- Landowners willing to allow hunting access have a June 11 deadline to enroll in either the Open Fields and Waters Program or the Conservation Reserve Program-Management Access Program (CRP-MAP).

Interested landowners should call their nearest Nebraska Game and Parks Commission office to participate this fall in the programs, which offer walk-in hunting access to private land. Open Fields and Waters targets woodland and wetland habitat and can open ponds, lakes and streams for fishing. The program is meant to complement the grassland focus of CRP-MAP. Land may not be enrolled in both programs at the same time.

Open Fields and Waters pays higher per-acre rates for habitat near population centers and in counties along the Platte River. CRP-MAP offers higher payments for landowners who actively manage their CRP land to improve wildlife habitat.

Open Fields and Waters is in the first year of a two-year pilot program. Since 1997, CRP-MAP has provided more than $4.4 million to Nebraska landowners for providing public walk-in access.
