From the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
-- Wild turkey and black bear hunters have until close of business Dec. 10 to apply for permits for Wisconsin's 2011 spring turkey and black bear hunting seasons.
Preliminary permit levels for the spring turkey season are set at 225,420 total permits, not including Fort McCoy or State Park and Disabled Only Hunting Zones. The same number of permits were available in 2010.
Total permits available for the 2011 Black Bear Hunt has not yet been determined. The Natural Resources Board will look at the proposed black bear quotas and harvest permit levels at its January meeting. The preliminary harvest for 2010 is 4,969 black bears, but that number may go up once all registration stubs are collected and entered. Hunters registered 4,009 bears in 2009.
Applications for each of these two permit drawings cost $3 and may be purchased at all authorized license agents, online athttp://dnr.wi.gov/org/caer/cs/licenseagents/, or through the Online Licensing Center at https://jc.activeoutdoorsolutions.com/wi_public/goHome.do or by calling toll-free (877) 945-4236.
