Clean your rifle, even if it is brand new

Clean your rifle, even if it's brand new. Most deer hunters know how important it is to thoroughly clean their guns following rough weather, multiple shots, or at the end of the season.

Fouling and powder residue will cause even the best guns to shoot poorly and rust can ruin a gun for good.

What many hunters don't realize also is it's a good idea to clean a brand new gun, especially in colder temperatures even before you first hunt with it. On many new guns firing pins and other moving parts are coated with grease and oil from the factory. This excess lubrication can freeze in cold weather, possibly costing you the buck of your dreams!

Take apart your new gun and remove excess grease and oil and when finished lightly lubricate moving parts with a quality temperature-resistant gun lubricant. If your not comfortable taking your gun apart, visit your local gunsmith and have it cleaned.

Good hunting!
