From Yamaha Motor Corp.
-- The mid-sized Yamaha Grizzly 550 FI utility ATV not only meets customers' requests for a 500- to 600-sized model, it exceeds their expectations by featuring all the premium features that adorn the flagship Grizzly 700 FI.
The Grizzly 550 FI is packed with features customers have come to expect from Yamaha, starting with reliable power from the 558cc liquid-cooled, four-valve SOHC engine. As on the Grizzly 700 FI, the 550 features a forged piston for reduced weight and added durability, while an aluminum cylinder body with composite coating offers reduced weight, increased cooling ability and additional wear resistance.
The roller rocker arms reduce friction in the valve train, which allows the engine to rev more freely leading to better overall performance and improved throttle response. The Grizzly 550 also receives an all-new cylinder head for improved throttle response and bottom end power.
Yamaha's Electronic Power Steering (EPS) system has received numerous awards and praise from customers. As the rider turns the handlebars and the torque- and speed-sensing EPS system senses the twisting force put on the handlebars and wheels, the electric motor kicks in and assists in the turn. The harder the rider turns, the more the EPS assists allowing the rider to tackle the toughest terrain with the least amount of effort.
Although the EPS system is definitely a favorite feature, the Grizzly 550 FI is also offered without power steering and starts at approximately $700 less (MSRP) for the budget-minded customer.
The Yamaha Fuel Injection system (YFI) improves throttle response throughout the powerband, helping the rider take advantage of the low- to mid-range power. YFI offers unmatched performance at high elevation as the system is able to detect and compensate for changes in altitude. The more precise fuel delivery offered by the YFI makes consistent power, better throttle response and improved fuel economy under a multitude of riding situations. In addition, YFI means no choke and easier cold starting.
Models are available in black metallic, hunter green and steel blue and have an MSRP of $7,799. A Special Edition in red midnight armor (MSRP $8,399) and a hunter edition in Realtree AP HD camo (MSRP $8,199) are also available.
The non-EPS model is available in black metallic, hunter green and steel blue (MSRP $7,099) and a hunter edition version will also be available in Realtree AP HD camo (MSRP $7,499) at Yamaha dealerships in October 2008.
