Yamaha's 2008 Big Bear 400 IRS 4x4 ATV Rallies in Muddy Conditions

Yamaha 2008 Big Bear 400From Yamaha Motor Corp.

-- The 2008 Yamaha Big Bear 400 IRS 4x4 is the latest in a long line of tough, trusted and dependable machines often looked to for long days of working and fun.

The Big Bear 400 features Yamaha's proven air-cooled, torque-producing 386cc SOHC four-stroke engine with great low- to mid-range power. The Mikuni 33mm BSR carburetor feeds the engine and offers excellent throttle response and great overall performance.

The popular five-speed semi-automatic transmission with reverse is one of the features that makes the Big Bear a favorite as it allows the rider to choose the best gear for the job and terrain ahead. Another important feature - especially when hauling, towing or riding in muddy conditions - is the dual hydraulic brakes in the front and a high-tech sealed wet brake in the rear that provide consistent, long-lasting performance regardless of the conditions. The rear brake system coupled with the 2WD/4WD push button On-Command system and independent rear suspension (IRS) make this one mean bear in the mud or through any tough terrain.

With 5.9 inches of travel up front and in the rear, riders will find a plush ride on this mean machine. Both the front and rear feature independent double wishbone suspension with five-way preload adjustment allowing riders to choose the best setting -- especially useful when hauling a heavy load. Overall, the Big Bear 400 offers 10.5 inches of ground clearance over tough trails and big ruts.

Other key features for muddy conditions include the ITP Mud Lite tires, high-mounted air-intake and all-new full floorboards, which not only offer superior mud protection, but also comfort.

The Big Bear 400 quickly reacts to rider input and can maneuver through tricky terrain. The vehicle can also handle heavy loads towing up to 904 pounds via the center-mounted rear hitch. But this bear doesn't stop there; the Duragrip-coated steel racks are capable of carrying a total of 264 additional pounds (88 on front and 176 on back).

Riding comfort is an important factor in buying any ATV, and the Big Bear 400 treats its operator to a cushy ride with a specially designed padded seat, wide fenders and inner fender guards that help deflect mud and debris. A large capacity 4-gallon fuel tank keeps it going strong all day long, while a speedometer and odometer/trip meter allows enthusiasts to track their progress while either on the job or at play. A mud-resistant DC outlet can power up cell phones and other portable electronic devices.

The 2008 Big Bear 400 IRS 4x4 is available in Hunter Green, Steel Blue and Red at Yamaha dealerships nationwide.  For 2008 the Big Bear 400 IRS 4x4 will also be available in Realtree(tm) AP HD Camouflage.
