Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime.

I squirrel hunted once when I was a kid. I want to do it again someday. But the only thing I have right now is a shotgun.

Not only that but I have not seen very many squirrels, or at least not the kind we can shoot in Iowa. Most of what I see here in my area are the Black squirrels and it is illegal to shoot black squirrels in Iowa.

I don't personally have any pictures of our black squirrels. But here is a link that has a nice picture of one. I will try to take some pictures of my own and post them sometime...

Oh, and I forgot to say, in Iowa it is illegal to hunt these black squirrels. They use to be rare, but now you see more black squirrels than red ones...

17HMR does a bit more damage than you think, that is if you plan on eating'em......trust me, if you are off and don't make a clean head shot then plan on picking up the pieces.

I ended up going back to the trusted .22

If you ever hope to be a credible adult and want a job that pays better than minimum wage, then for God's sake don't pierce or tattoo every available piece of flesh. If so, then plan your future around saying... "Would you like fries with that?"

OH YEA!!! I squirrel hunt...I'm a squirrel hunter. Our season here in WV opens in about a week...October 6th. For years I always hunted with my 870 Express 12 gauge, but it was to easy so now I have been going to the woods with my JW-15 22 lr bolt action rifle that is topped with a 3-9x40 Tasco scope and a bipod.

Taken several, several squirrels with it.

Looking forward to our opener, but it has been so hot up here in WV and no rainfall that really amounts to much. We need a good cold snap and some frosty mornings. Acorns are already falling and the squirrels are cutting the heck out of them. Haven't seen the first hickory yet just oak and most of it is chestnut oak and red oak, haven't found any white oak.
