| I suppose I can tell a little bit about my small hometown of Lone Hickory, NC. Our community has a population of about 2000 folks or so, and most of us are related My entire direct family lives in this community, aunts, uncles, my grandparents (before they passed), and I live next door to my mom and dad, with my wife and 2 year old daughter. Its a farming community, with lots of acres to hunt on (so long as you have permission of course) and my dad owns about 150 of those acres, so thats where I hunt mostly. The town was named for a old hickory tree that stood near the old "trading post" which was around 150 years old or so, and sat alone in the middle of the square, so hence the name Lone Hickory. We are about 25 minutes directly west of Winston Salem NC, in the NC Foothills.
Our community is a good one for hunting too, with several hunters in the area (again most of which are family of mine) so we have a good time with each other, help each other drag and dress deer, etc. We have no stoplights around, and its as quiet at night as you could wish for
As for Chuck....I dont know if you follow your college sports down there, but Im a huge Miami Hurricanes fan, hence my screenname of HurricaneJay. Been down to the Orange Bowl to see a few games, and you failed to mention that the stadium is right in the middle of Little Havana

| I live in Vicksburg, MS and our countywide population is around 50k. The City is on the Mississippi River in the central part of the state. We are a city steeped in history. Our main claim to fame is our civil war history. We have numerous Ante Bellum (for those of you who don't know, Ante Bellum literally means "before the war" homes now serving as Bed and Breakfast inns and we have lots of antique shops. We also have our fair share of modern facilities including the Army Corps of Engineers Research and Development Center which is the largest Hydrolic research facility in the US, Several Casinos and manufacturing plants like LeTourneau, Inc who makes Gorilla Class offshore oil rigs (they float them down the Mississippi River and out into the Gulf of Mexico). Vicksburg is also home to several Musicians and Athletes like: George McConnell, former guitarist for Widespread Panic, Willie Dixon, Blues musician, Milt Hinton, Jazz bassist, Taylor Tankersly, relief pitcher for the Marlins, Rod Coleman of the Atlanta Falcons and others. We have a large Jewish community and many people of Lebanese descent who are Eastern Orthodox as well as the usual protestant religions and Catholics. The hunting in the area is superb, to the North is the MS Delta region with holds an abundance of squirrel, duck and doves along with a good population of deer and turkey. To the South is more of a rolling hills region and the Turkey hunting just south of town is great. Mississippi in general is becoming well known for its high population of deer. I personally hunt about an hours drive away in Tensas Parish, LA. Our camp is right on the Mississippi River and has some great hunting. If you really want to know more about our history, Google us, we have lots of info on the net. | | | |

Sorry it took me so long to reply.
Mcraddock,
Nice town! (There are a lot of nice towns in this post)
HurricaneJay,
Ha! Got Ya!
It wasn't always inside of Little Havana.
I was born there in 1952 and the Orange Bowl was a beautiful place at one time. (They are going to tear it down now.)

Baltimore is an independent city located in the state of Maryland in the United States. As of 2006, the population of Baltimore City was 640,961.⎖] The city is a major U.S. seaport, situated closer to major Midwestern markets than any other major seaport on the East Coast. Once an industrial town with an economic base in manufacturing, Baltimore's economy has shifted primarily to a service sector-oriented, with the largest employer no longer Bethlehem Steel but The Johns Hopkins University and The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
The Baltimore Metropolitan Area, which includes the city's surrounding suburbs, has approximately 2.6 million residents. Baltimore is also part of the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area (CMSA) of approximately 8.1 million residents. Baltimore is the largest city in Maryland, and its metropolitan area is the 20th largest in the country. The city is named after the founding proprietor of the Maryland Colony, Lord Baltimore in the Irish House of Lords. Baltimore himself took his title from a place named Baltimore in Ireland, which is the English transliteration of the Irish language Baile an Tí Mhoir, or "Town of The Big House".⎗] Baltimore in County Cork was the seat of Lord Baltimore. ⎘] Baltimore became the second leading port of entry for immigrants to the United States during the 1800s. Because there is also a Baltimore County surrounding (but not including) the city, it is sometimes referred to as Baltimore City when a clear distinction is desired.
"Most Dangerous City" Rankings (2006) ranks Baltimore as the 12th most dangerous American city.⎹] Baltimore is second only to Detroit among cities with a population over 500,000.⎺] According to crime statistics there were 269 homicides in Baltimore in 2005,⎻] giving it the highest homicide rate per 100,000 of all U.S. cities of 250,000 or more population. ⎺] Though this is significantly lower than the record-high 353 homicides in 1993, the homicide rate in Baltimore is nearly seven times the national rate, six times the rate of New York City, and three times the rate of Los Angeles. In addition, other categories of crime in Baltimore have also been declining, although overall crime rates are still high compared to the national average. The rate of forcible rapes has fallen below the national average in recent years; however, Baltimore still has much higher-than-average rates of aggravated assault, burglary, robbery, and theft.⎼]

The Great Baltimore Fire of 1904 raged in Baltimore, Maryland, from 10:48 a.m. Sunday, February 7, to 5:00 p.m. Monday, February 8, 1904. Over 1,231 firefighters were required to bring the blaze under control.
The fire was reported first at the John Hurst and Company building at 10:48 a.m. and quickly spread. By 1:30 p.m., units from Washington, DC, were arriving. To halt the fire, officials decided to use a firewall, and dynamited buildings around the existing fire. This tactic, however, was unsuccessful.
One reason for the fire's duration was the lack of national standards in fire-fighting equipment. Although fire engines from nearby cities (such as Philadelphia and Washington, as well as units from New York City, Wilmington, and Atlantic City) responded, many were useless because their hose couplings failed to fit Baltimore hydrants. As a result, the fire burned over 30 hours, destroying 1,526 buildings spanning 70 city blocks.

| I live in a small town called Yatesville, GA, population of about 200. We have a post office, general store, a restaurant, a gas station, several churches, and most recently a new library! We are surrounded by fields and woods...good places to hunt deer and turkey. Our town used to have several schools, a girls college, hotel, bank, railroad station, cotton gin, and grist mill, but that was around 1900. It is a great community that hosts events for children and during the summer free movies in the pavilion outside the library. Our only real claim to fame is that Little Richard was born and lived here until he was about seven and his parents moved to Macon, GA. On the last weekend of October, we have the Chitlin Hoedown, where we sell an average of five tons of chitlins (I eat the BBQ.) People come from all over for the chitlins, but don't ask me why. It's a great little town that isn't too far from about anything you need.
Within the next year I'll be starting a new job and will be moving to Waxhaw, NC. Anyone from around there? | | A Christmas card for You!: http://www.bigbucksunlimited.com/Card1.htm Big Bucks Unlimited: Learning to be responsible stewards of renewable resources.

| | Rcraig, I'm a native of Mecklenburg County which is next door to Waxhaw. Stay out of Charlotte if you can help it, bad schools and too much traffic. Waxhaw once was a sleepy community but now it is built up with lots of homes. Many of the folks there work in Charlotte. I moved to Denver, NC, it is NW of Charlotte and borders Lake Norman, I work in Charlotte. Denver's growing by leaps and bounds, I'm in the minority as a Southern boy in a subdivision full of yankees! Mike | | | |

| | I live in Corning California. About 150 mile's from the Oregon border. I put it that way as to not be associated with the rest of the state. Our town is small, about 16000. I own a small 10 acre horse ranch, with my wife. It is pretty quiet here most of the time. Most of our family live's within 30 minute's. Mostly open rolling hill's here. Hunting is on a scale of 1to10, about an 8. We are 1 hour from public hunting in either direction. I personaly live to hunt. Our town's major employment is Olive's. The olive plant employ's about 600 people. My son is the head elctrician there. After reading your post's, almost didn't do this. You guy's live in some really neat place's. Hunt hard, teach a kid to hunt, enjoy life | | | |
