| | I'm a sixth grade teacher. I looked out my door yesterday, and standing there was a young man I had in class seven or eight years ago. He had on a brand new Marine dress blue uniform. He got out of basic training last Friday, and he came to visit me! He looked great. i imagine he's a chick magnet in the uniform. He was so proud of himself he couldn'rt stand it. So was I. He leaves in two weeks for training, then probably to the middle east. I'm very happy and proud for him, but I still have mixed feelings. Man he looks young. I'm sure he will do his job well. | | | |

| Congrats on a job well done.I'm sure it's not easy for you to watch this young man go off to a place that can be cruel and deadly. For him to come back to see you, that in it's self shows you care for the kids who come through your class.Keep up the the good work. Oh yeah, tell him thanks . | | Tubby The God of My Rock;He Is My Sheild; And The Horn Of My Salvation 2 Samuuel,Ch 22 | |

| | Thanks for sharing. Have you kept in touch with this young man since you had him in class? Live in the same town and watched him grow up? I'd like to hear more if you don't mind sharing. So happy to hear of a young man proud of what he has become. | |

| | I really didn't keep up with him. I get over 100 new students a year. It's funny. At the end of every year, I tell myself "I'll never have a group like this one again", but I always do. In thirty years, i can probably count on one hand the number of kids that I truly did not like at all. That is if I could remember their name. As I get older, my memory is getting worse. I'm awful with names. When I was a kid, I spent more than one day after school writing sentences. I had too much free time on my hands. I should probably thank LBJ for giving me the opportunity. I got out of high school in 1968, I was 17 years old. My choices were college (I wasn't a very good student) or the Army (probably Viet Nam). I enrolled in a small state college, and like it. I've always been pretty lucky with my teaching assignments. There are a lot worse jobs out there. Whenever I see a former student (that I remember) who is nearing graduation, I always ask them what their plans are. If they say "I don't know" I always tell them if you aren't going to college or learn a trade, why don't you give the military a thought? I'm rambling. I could go on. Gotta go. School tomorrow. | | | |

| | I'm the same way about not remembering names but I don't equate this with age, as I have been this way my entire life. I can always remember a face but not a name. Good advice you give out. Out of all of the teachers I had while I was in school, I can only recall one, a special one, that took the time to talk to me and not at me. Her name is Kathy and we are still close to this day. The advice she gave me years ago helped me make life decisions that affect me to this day. She is an Angel. | |
