mc6528, Im 18 why does that matter, and its still a rush seeing then from far away, hell I get a rush just seeing em on the side of the road feeding, and I agree with you majhor its all about the advertisement but thats not what huntn is about, and many people think that they can go out everytime like on tv and shoot a big buck with the products that were advertised.

Unfortunately, being 18 in this situation does matter.  It does not mean that your opinion is not just as valid.  However, I can remember when the only hunting shows were local shows on Saturday evening and the main advertiser was the local Co-Op, way back before everyone had cable, the Outdoor Channel was not around,  even Buckmasters was not being aired on The Nashville Network (TNN) if memory serves me correct, if you wanted to watch a "hunting show" you had to buy / rent a video tape (which is where these guys made their money) and most of your advertising occurred in magazines (which people once read).  I have seen the "hunting show" (and "fishing show for that matter) evolve with time and become more and more commercialized.  With all that said, my perspective, like mc6528's  is going to be quite different from yours concerning this matter and it doesn't mean one is "right" and one is "wrong", just different, which is what makes this country great.

I agree with you that the advertising is not what hunting is about, but it is a multi-billion dollar industry which drives the train for the modern day "hunting show".  For some of the so-called "bad" that commercialization has done for the sport, there has been some "good" as well, like:  attracting others to this great sport that you and I both obviously love, technological advances in the equipment available to you and I today, spreading the word on some issues which are key to the sport (management, supplemental feeding, gun safety, etc.), just to name a few.

BTW, I find it refreshing to see those like yourself as passionate about the hunt as I am.  Sometimes it takes some of the younger bucks introducing fresh ideas and opinions to keep us old bucks from getting stuck in a rut....

Very well said, but I think the shows need to be more informative and set up in a way that shows the effort before the shot.(kinda like I said a behind the scenes)

I agree Tubby and would like to see some of the same.  It seems that a good producer of one of these shows could step up and sell the sponsors on the idea, especially since it would be going to detail on many of the products that are utilized behind the scenes and how those products work.

You still see some of this type of material on the local shows, the old Saturday evening shows that air around 5:00.  However, these shows are aired on mostly rural markets and do not have the national network to contend with on ratings.

Im not against the hunting shows and dont want them to stop showing them, I just think they need to get back into what huntn is really about. being in the outdoors, making memories with friends and your family, and passing it on with others.

How do you know that to the guy that is making the show in question that isn't what he's doing?   Definately not trying to be argumentative, but your previous post is attempting to define what another persons intent is based on your perception.
If the show in question doesn't appeal to you change the channel.  Or better yet, make your own show the way you want to.  Case resolved.

you guys do realize that your watching a 30 minute movie that may have taken them all day to film. It would be safe to say that they are not just running out setting up and shooting a deer in 30 minutes. And these guys that ya'll are saying you wish they would come hunt in your area and see just how well they do, They have been hunting all their lives and will probally forget more about hunting than you and I would learn in a life time. Back to the 1000 yard shot, thats not for me as well too many variables could go wrong on that long of a shot. The deer can take a lot of steps from the time the trigger is pulled till it reaches its mark.

i do understand very well but their are alot of hunters i know that may go and spend 5 days a week in archery, muzzleloader and gun seasons every week its open .just to get a 120 class buck or smaller on public land , also i've met people who hunt and fish just so they can eat, and when something is your job you should know alot about it....my point was just that these people hunt where buck programs are and have been in place for years to grow world class deer, every day joes never get that chance to hunt some place like that not saying they wouldn't to get a world class buck what i was saying is that i would like to see them hunt on public land ,with most of us to see what kind of deer they take home after a 3 day hunt, i think they will take home the same kind the rest of us do (small) lol and some of us has been hunting all of our lives also, the people who have tv programs do not worrie for money they have sponcers, from guns to scopes,to hunting clothes to people letting them hunt their ranch for the tv time (i just wish it was me ) but i hunt on a fixed income even gas for the car has to be a concern of mine that tells me if i can go or not .

D.C your right these guys kill trophy bucks because they hunt where the trophy bucks live. If your gonna kill an elephant you go where the elephants are. I too have often wondered how they would do in some of our situations and hunt some of the places we hunt. And rebel theres plenty of guys on this site that have killed a deer within 15 minutes of being on their stand as will you someday. Atrophy to one is different than a trophy to the next. I get more satisfaction from taking a 6 pt after a weekend long hunt than I would taking a 140 class buck after watching several bucks in a field and picking out the one I wanted. But thats just me.

Good morning yall,,i had to chuckle a bit when i seen this post. Before i jumped online i had just been watching the outdoor channel. And the show that somebody had recently commented about "The One" or somethin like that was on. I want to say this guy was hunting in New Zealand,,he was hunting some form of goats anyway,,and the hunt consited of being dropped off by a helicopter on a mountain top,,spotting these animals,,and the guide specifically saying "hang on and i will tell you wich one to shoot" honestly i would be stoked to travel around the world and hunt some of these exotic animals as long as you can eat em! lol,,,,but i seen a guy on tv the other day in africa riding around in a jeep until they found a girraffe grazing,,stopped and shot him from 40yrds,,the giraffe didnt even care they were there,,could not see the joy in that nor would i want to kill a girraffe for any reason. While i do myself enjoy some of the shows on TV,, i agree with some in here that the highly commercialized versions of these shows takes away from the traditional hunting most of us were taught,,,or watched as someone said earlier on Networks like TNN,,but heres a thought,,,maybe...just maybe,,,the guys you see on tv or in magazines hunting these outfitters with these monster bucks,,,were also brought up hunting on public land,,or in their own back forty,,they just took doing what you and i love and turned it into a bit of entertainment,,and a way to put money in their pocket,,,and while they are having sponsors pay or pay themselves to hunt in a game farm,,,they are not taking away from you and your right to be out in the woods,,rather,,they are influencing they guy, gal,or young buck you will see out in the woods for their first time chasing the same dream you are. And its yours and mines job to let these future hunters know if they already dont that while things may not always be as good as they are on the screen,,nothing gets better than this!
