I have a need for information.  When I read a post, I like to try to put it into context on where this person is from, how old are they, and are they male or female.

I'll give you an example:  Not to pick on anyone, but lets just throw out a call name:  MrChuck.  This person responds to a posting and gives an opinion.  Then we read it and try to establish if this is credible or not.  Because this person has no info on where their from, age, sex, nothing. I don't put as much value on the response as if I can at least know something about the source of the info.  I don't know if this is a 3 year old girl wearing footy pajamas, or a 70 year old man that has all the experience in the outdoors, and is  a wealth of info.  If I know the person is a woman, I put more value on that info. because that is the way I have been trained. (wink) I know there might be the  potential for security problems if you put too much info out there.  But it is really nice to know a little about the person who is writing the response.  Maybe we can put an effort into supplying a little more info.  It would probably make things easier on everyone.  I'll go first.. I have hunted the PNW for over 35 years now. Started when I was 12, hunting black tail deer on the coast of Oregon with my Dad. I have hunted deer, bear, elk, and birds in Wa. St. and Ore. I have used a 30-30, 25-06, 30-06, 308 a 7.62x39. I have hunted the brush of the Ore. coast, the mountains of Ore. & Wa. St., and the wheat feilds of Wa. St. Most of my hunting is "stocking", some blinds and I have tried tree sitting. I would like to learn to Bow and Blackpowder hunt some day.

(Louisiana) I am in the US Army and am a Recruiter. I know, I know, I know, a recruiter, yes. LOL! I have three kids, a 3 1/2 yr old girl, a 1 1/2 yr old girl, and 1 month old baby boy. I am kinda married! Long story! Pretty much raise the kids on my own. Its tough, I'm with ya Melsue. Anyways, I'm an avid outdoorsman. Been hunting for about 18 yrs now, the last 3 with a bow only. I am a semi-pro ASA archery shooter. Sponsored by the Star Gun & Archery Shop here in LA, and love anything to do with a bow. Any more info needed feel free to PM me.

My name is also Matt. I am 39 and have been married 18 years. I have 2 kids (13 year old daughter and 10 year old son). I recently changed jobs...sold insulin and now sell medical devices in the operating room. I live in the country and would have it no other way. Quick notes to McCraddock and MelSue.....McCraddock....I am only about 3 1/2 hours from you, just north of Bristol, Tennessee....I used to work for Cintas in Greenville, when it was on Pleasantburg. Mel....The Who is the greatest band in the world. There are only a few other bands even in the same class...IMHO. I, too, am a deeraholic and it is my greatest desire to hunt in Illinois and see a deer that weighs more than 150lbs...let alone kill one. Well, there's me. Who's next?

Texas

My name is Steve. I have hunted for fifteen years all around Texas, for quail, turkey, deer, mule deer, dove, and hogs. I have tried various other hunts, but these are my favorites. I am from Dallas, and while I have no land of my own, I try and hunt as often as possible. I have two girls, four and six, with the oldest going on photo hunts with me. (taking pics of the animals we see.) She is just learning how to shoot a pellet gun, and gun safety. I have spent most of my hunting experience, trying to make my hunting time and leases, the most non-invasive to the land as I can. I try not to set up stands, or feeders if I can, I might place out mineral rocks or some such, but as I said...unless I just can't do it any other way, i try and just get myself into the best position my scouting and searching can find.

My name is Jim. I'm 40 years old. I live in a small rural town in "Way Upstate" NY at the foothills of the Adirondack Mountians. I've been married for 15 years with 2 great sons that are 11 & 6. My passions are fishing, hunting & snowmobiling. I've been fishing since I was 4 and hunting with my best friend, my Dad since I was 6. In the summer I fish bass tournaments, the fall I deer hunt & in the winter I ice fish and snowmobile. In the little spare time I have, I coach my boys little league baseball teams. Both of my boys are "outdoor" kids that would rather be in the woods than anywhere else. Here's a picture of Dad & I.

Hi,

My name is Chuck.

Born and raised in Miami Florida.

I will be 55 in a couple of weeks and am on the cusp of retirement.  I have four kids and nine grandchildren.

I am a new hunter by most of your standards.  I have only been hunting for about seven (7) years.  (I have been into guns and ballistics for most of my adult life and a member of the NRA for about as long.)  Most of my hunting experience has been in The Everglades National Preserve.  Our hunts (on foot) are very different than sitting on the corner of a cornfield, so I have spent many, many days in the field and only have kill numbers that I can probably count on two hands.

(Maybe three.)

Thanks to Buckmasters, I have in the past few years been introduced to hunting in other parts of the country.  Northern Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Illinois and even Elk in Colorado.  (I wish I was raised in some of these areas instead of having a big swamp for my stomping grounds.)  The deer here are so different.  They are much smaller, don't really respond to scents, calls or other lures that where in other areas this is common.  Down here, if I try those tactics, it just runs the deer off.  They do rub, but they don't scrape.  (The average hunting area has 1' to 3' of water in it.)  I have seen where they rub their antlers in low hanging branches, like in a scrape, but there is never anything on the ground.

Most of what I know about classical deer hunting I have either read about or have been lucky enough to have this wisdom imparted to me by my out of state friends and hunting buddies.

So, I am in no way an expert.

I do archery hunt, but I prefer a rifle if there is an option.  (All those years of ballistics and firearms.)

I am very much a newcomer and always interested in learning something new or traveling and hunting in different locations to see how other people hunt in their backyards.

This is my first kill:
