Bummer for me. Shot a nice buck last night with the crossbow and the bolt did not pass through. Second time this has happened this year. Lost the blood trail, came back with dog, and still no deer. I am now shopping for a different expandable broadhead for my crossbow. On the plus side, I put my little brother on a scrape that I had seen a 6 point hit earlier and he got the buck Sunday morning chasing a doe.

What type of expandable do you use? I shoot a compound bow and use the Wasp Jak-Hammer don't know if you can use it on a crossbow but I have had a lot of luck with them.

On the crossbow I use the Aftershock X-bow 100 grain. I need something that will open on contact and not rob too much energy from the bolt.

Mornin folk's
Mcraddock had the same thing happen last week. think i would like to steer away from these open on impact. with out a heavy arrow. i cant seem to control a fixed blad. were is the cut off weight verses speed ????
i am thinking nothing hurts worse than a fly doing 100mph except mabye a rock at 50
ok feedback time. i am shooting a 400gr carbon with blazer & 100 spitfire at 65lbs i have good speed no power no control with a fixed blad & i have tried several brands.
thinking i should go with a 550 alum. and back to a 5in vain for flight control. more weight more control wright or wrong??

Papa... have you tuned your bow?

You should be able to achieve plenty of control with that set-up.... or are you wanting more forgiveness?

tuned and restrung retuned. paper looks good no sideways shots. arrows are numbered the bow shoots fine. the operator on the other hand is questionable. i am shooting around 270fps and 3in groups are not an issue at 25yd. i just dont have the impact i had with alum. this set up has taken more than it's share of deer in the last 5yr for me. just looking to go back to a fixed blade. and i cannot get them to fly. thinking it is the lighter arrows and shorter vains. comprmising control for speed??????? what do you guy's think

should i move this to the bow hunting thread?

Greetings papa99!  Moving your question to the bow section would certainly give your situation alot more exposure.  Actually, it seems weird that I'm answering since I have NO IDEA about crossbows and compound bows.

I hope all is well and things are getting better for you and the wife.

Luckily I didn't get to see the game or hear much of it, as I heard afterward it was a nail biter.
Saban has done alot with what he has and will build a great team next season.
We're hoping to play Tennessee in the SEC chamionship and avoid playing Georgia.

What a depressing weekend in football for me.

Maimi Hurricanes lost to Virginia 48 - 0 ... how embarassing !
South Carolina Gamecocks lost to Florida 51 - 31
Tennesee beat Arkansas 34 - 13 ( I hate Tennesee !)

But at least Clemson won their game against Wake Forrest 44 - 10

NFL, well Falcons showed up the Panthers 20 - 13. Carolina has really given up.

On a positive note... I saw plenty of big bucks this weekend, just none in bow range. Time to grab the rifle...
