I was wanting to take my 12 year old daughter on her first deer youth hunt. I was wondering what kind of gun to get her, that wouldn't kick hard but still get the job done.

Hi, I like the Rem. 243. I started my son out with it and he had great success and he wasn't scared to fire it .

I would have to say the 243 would be a very good choice.Recoil is light and it's extremly accurate. My son started on a 243 with 95 grn SST from Hornady.

i would say .243, i have a rem. mod. 788 carbine i bought new in 1980. both my sons killed their first deer with it. they don't make it any more but the mod. 7 is almost just like it. my boss's daughter used it several times. she loved using my rifle. she would come running up to me saying, you going to let me use your gun again..

How about a marlin336 in a 30-30. Put a "limbsaver"recoil pad on it (They work trust me). Remington makes a reduced recoil round(125grain) for the 30-30. Once she gets a little older and she can handle more "kick", lose the pad(or not) and switch to standard ammo. Then she will have a rifle that will last well into adulthood. Who knows maybe even get passed down to her son or daughter some day.

I would say a .30-30 or a .243.  I would suggest the .30-30 gun more because with that she can use it the rest of her life.  Plus its killed more deer than any other gun!
