| 1ST. want to say hi and glad to be here now to the question i've been studing the new t/c prohunter reading forms the pros and cons and also on the knight kp1
t/c prohunter muzzleloader $ 799.99 , exter rifle barrel 300 wm $298.99 , , forearm $89.99
knight kp1 muzzleloader $489.99 , 300 wm barrel $189.89 , forearm $40.00
as you can see a big price diff. in the two but the prohunter has 5 times the cal. barrels to pick from its been on the market for several years now and the prohunter has a heavy trigger , and loose forearm on some of their guns from what i've seen on other forms
the kp1 is new only 5-6 barrels to pick from but on forms they don't have the heavy trigger problems , or the loose forearm problems they have went a tad bit different than t/c did with theirs
wanted to see what gun you would pick and why i know t/c and knights both are great muzzleloaders i've owned both never had problems with eather.... | | | |

| | Like you said Davy, the Encore is more expensive.Even in the long run.But it is/was the first to come out vrs. the Kp1.It does have a huge selection of barrel choices, rifle and pistol. The Kp1 has just a few,and I doubt it will be anytime soon that they offer any pistol barrels. As for the forearms for a Encore you can buy the quick screws and just swap forarms in a flash. The quick screws won't work on the pistol barrels, but thats a minor set back, just buy or swap around till you have a few extras(different lenght pistol forearms have a size for each)As far as the loose forearms,I haven't had that problem yet on mine.Any Encore barrel will fit to a Prohunter. As far as barrel prices, all I can say is shop around, there are plenty of forums where people sell used ones or swap with somebody after they get bored with that caliber(BIG HINT>do not buy any barrels from a online auction board, you will pay WAY TO MUCH for it)Also you WILL pay a higer price for say a Bullberry barrel verus a T/C factory barrell. As far as the trigger, they can be lighted up,but it will take a gunsmith to do it or you can send it back to T/C or several other places that can do it(if you do this, don't send the whole gun, just the frame, saves on shipping weight)About pistol barrells ;heres an example I have a 26" 243 barrell,I was browsing at a gunshop,I found a 243 just the same but on sell for $179 out the door.I bought it,took it to a local machine shop and paid $20 for them to cut it down to a pistol lenght,so now I have a 243 pistol caliber cheaper than if I had ordered one.Another tip, blued barrells are cheaper than stainless,my frame is stainless but I do put blued barrels on it,yes it looks strange but it shoots just as good. Now for the BIGGEST tip I can give you.According to the Feds you can not turn a rifle frame into a pistol configureation, however you CAN put a rifle barrel onto a pistol frame and be legal. But I do know plenty of folks that just don't worry about it one way or the other.I have several frames so I can swap around. You will spend a little more money by pieceing a Encore/Prohunter together by buying a pistol frame first but you ain't ever got to worry about what barrell type you have on it if you ever get checked. If your gonna buy a frame I'd suggest these folks www.eabco.com they will also lighten up the trigger for a small fee before it leaves their shop.If you buy the T/C email me or Pm me and I will send you to the right places for barrells. | | | |
