| | This was my second gun has a shorter barrelt had it for about 14 years took my first doe with this anyway. I have a new inline but moneys tight and people have said it needs to be shot at least 100 times. I know I have my old muzz sighted in at 50 yards. Im thinking of switch scopes you think the old gun will shoot 100 to 150 yards? its the old school ball and patch lmk what you think please | | | |

| | Not quite sure what you are asking so I will say that no matter how old school your musket is it will most certainly shoot 100 to 150 yds. Older muskets should use about 80 to 100 grains of tripple 7 and the twist of the barrel will determine if it will work better with the new sabbots or the old patch & ball or conicals. Run a wet then a dry patch down the barrel after every shot. Note in the American Revolution the American Kentucky long rifles were known to be accurate out to 400 yds. Sight the rifle at the distance you expect to use it and practice at farther distances. I often shoot 200 yds with Barnes 250 grain Sabbots in a 50 Cal musket. | | THUNDERHEAD 125 ))))==========> THE BUCK STOPS HERE | |

| | I don't think you need to shoot it 100 times to break it in. Most of the new barrels are nice when they come from the factory. I'd try a 300 grain bullet and 100 grains of powder. They should be on sale soon since the seasons are about over. | | | |

| | I wouldn't worry about shooting it 100 times either. | | To Authenticate the posting experience, this post may contain impact shots. | |

| I have a cva hawkins and use eather a powerbelt, minne, or round ball. The round is good for about 85 to 90 the minnie up to 160 or so the powerbelt I bump the powder to 110(from 95) its good to 200 or so, maby more but with open sights I dont take shots over that, there is just to much risk of a bad shot.

| | the 100 shots is what us die hards consider(well all the ones I know) broke in.Put your scope on the new one, sight it in and hunt with it.Just every once in a while shoot some groups with it during the year ahead, after the season closes. It'll be broke in before you know it. | | | |
