| | Wher I hunt it is the norm to use buckshot. When looking at other forums on the internet I have seen where alot of people have said that buckshot is no good and only wounds deer. I as well as others have had much success using buckshot. Have anyone else found success using this form of ammunition, and ifso what brands. | | | |

| I've never used buckshot. In my opinion, shotgun slugs have become more popular. I feel this is the case because of the range extended by slugs. With a properly sighted in slug-gun, it's possible to reach out to 150 or even 200 yards. Most will agree that 50-75 yards or further with buckshot, and you're more likely to wound than kill. I'm sure there are exceptions to this, but this is a generalization, no matter the specifics, you can generally shoot slugs further than buckshot.
The truth is that any weapon used beyond it's effective range will likely wound more than kill. It doesn't matter whether it is bow, rifle, shotgun, or crossbow. The important thing is that we know the effective range of a weapon, practice with it, and exercise the discipline and maturity to pass on a shot that we are not comfortable with.
The real issue here that has given buckshot a negative reputation is not the tool, but the people who mishandle it.

| I will agree completely with Danny here. his statements here are spot on, even though I refuse to use slugs myself. When i hunt with my shotgun, I use 00Buckshot because I use it in areas where I am more than likely to get a close shot, anywhere I hunt that I need to hit something farther than 60 yards, I break out the '06.
However, this season as of now, my old Remington model 100 3" mag has been retired for its replacement (my Bow).
And on a side note, the first 12 or so deer I ever killed, I shot with that shotgun loaded with 00 Buckshot

| | I know about about old remington shotguns and buckshot, for the most part that is the brand of gun most of my family uses. My gun shoots #1 buck the best, however Ive heard from several people that number 1 buck is too small to stop a deer. | | | |

| | On windy afternoons I like to breakout the Mossberg with 00 buckshot and stalk through the thick brush. Can't beat buckshot when it comes to a running shot a 50 yards or less. | | | |

| | I agree with the idea about running shots, have any of you ever tried buckshot for standhunting? | | | |

| | Ive shot 3 in. mags for the first few weeks of this season, but think that I am going t go back to 2 3/4 inch number 1's. If you look at muzzle velocities, they should travel faster than some magnum loads. | | | |
