| I went to the shooting range with my brother this past Saturday to see how his Blackpowder rifle shoots(4-5 year old rifle). It is a TC BlackDiamond XR topped with a Nikon scope, again from 4-5 years ago.
Anyway, he used to mess with the TC bullets and plastic "hull" but this past week he shot some other brand of bullet where it has a plactic pointed nose and under the back of the bullet has a plastic ring.
At 50 yards we couldn't tell if he was even hitting paper! We moved target to 25 yards and it shot to the left so he adjusted it and got a grouping that touched each other with three or four rounds.
We moved it back to 50 yards and again we could even tell where he hit the paper, although it seems like they went left again, at least 7 inches from center.
His scope was secured, and when I asked about his barrel he tells me that it always "floated." In other words, he could squeeze the barrel and artificial stock together at the forepart and let go.
He also showed me that if he pulled the gun to him tight the barrel with move up or down. Seems like that shouldn't matter since the scope is mounted to the barrel and he's getting a full field of view.
As I recall he got decent groups at 50 yards with his old bullets.
Three things changed: first it got moved alot while in a case(in and out of cars and under beds)during the evacuation of Katrina; secondly he removed the scopeand rings and had a screw break because of locktight; finally he used a different type of bullet setup.
oh, I forgot to mention that his breech plug assembly(whatever the thing is called) was stuck and broke the little wrench when he tried to clean it...apparently he forgot that he had a bullet in there without powder for the past two+ years.
Any help would be appreciated.

| | LOL,clean the gun, clean the gun.Next go back to the old load and bullets,I know several people who have tryed the bullit, your talking about, and they had pretty much the same problem. All muzzys shot a little different from each other regardless of brand or bullit type.My uncle, cousin and myself all shot stainless encores bought from 3 different stores they all group diffent with the same loads even out of a vice. | | | |

| | Another thing you failed to tell us is what was the powder charge you were using?? I shoot 100 grains in mine but if I was having trouble with grouping I would try droping the powder charge down to 70 grains and work up from there to see what powder charge will give you your best group. | | | |

He was shooting with 100 grains of powder. He uses the pyrodex cylinders of 50 grains each.
I think it's odd that he got great groups at 25 yards then at 50 they were 7+ inches to the left, and not even group. I think he wants to go back to the range with the TC bullets he used years ago.
Thanks.
BTW, do y'all have similar barrell issues?

| | i think i'd start with going back to the old load and see what happens, second i'd double check the scope and rings.you stated he removed it.last year i bought a rifle and the store supposedly bore sighted it,every time i shot it hit somewhere different.it was tight but when they installed it the rings on one end weren't in the groove the little bolt rests in.therefore it appeared to be tight but when i fired it moved just a tad. | | | |

| | I shoot a Black Diamond with 100 grains powder and 240 grain TC XTP sabots and I don't have any problems with groupings. | | | |

| | Hi, I was using powerbelts and they were all over the place. My friends Omega grouped them on top of each other at 50 yards. I don't think the old black diamonds like the powerbelts, I am thinking of going to the T/C shockwave. I still haven't figured out the 100 or 150 grain deal yet. I don't mind wasting powder as long as I am accurate. I think 100 is enough, but I want to be able to reach out as far as possible. I guess I'll have to use up some powder and bullets to find out unless I can find someone that has already done that research. | | | |

| | Well, I shot the 250 gr shockwaves with 150 gr of Pyrodex pellets and... woo hoo. Zeroed it at 140 yds. and it is 2" high at 100 yds. with the holes on top of each other. Also, at 140 yds it leaves a perfect hole in the target with no indication of tumbling. | | | |
