This gets expensive after a while. I was practicing "Hail Mary" shots at 50 yards when my arrow skipped of the top of my Block target and smashed into the 3/4" plywood secondary backstop. This is the fourth arrow I've destroyed this month. I know all you fellow archers can feel the same pain.

Better you than me. I am not getting the groups I want at 30 or 40 yrds. I have the same grouping at both distances. I think it is my broadheads affecting the flight. I am going to see how field points fly and if grouping is better.

WOW!!! Just plywood did that??? You should switch to carbon arrows. I purposely shot a tree at 50 yards just to see if i could hit a 4 or 5 inch tree that was in my Uncles fence that needs to be removed. This tree is a little bigger a round than a 4X4 and the only thing that happened to my arrow is that is went more than 3/4 of the way thru the tree. I have about 1/4 to 1/8 of an inch of the broadhead that did not come out of the tree, so I used my knife and cut a little of the wood away so I could remove the broadhead and pulled the arrow back out. Nothing else happened to the carbon arrow I use, I shot it a few weeks later for practice on a target and it flew just great, just as it always did before...

Mine cost around $6.00 and it really hurts your feelings when you break one.

Ummm, that is a carbon arrow. It's a Carbon Express Thunderstorm Hunter. What happened is when the arrow skipped off the top of the "block" target, it flipped over and the nock end hit the plywood first. I use the plywood just to make darn sure that my stray shots don't fly off into someone elses yard.

OH!!! Wow!!! I haven't had that happen either.

I would either do what
matt_man215 said, and use some straw or hay as your back stop. Or take some foam rubber and lay across the top of the plywood so that if it does it again it will hit the soft rubber instead of the hard wood. Using something like that rubber that they use to insulate pipes, you know what I mean?

My favorite backstop is a pile of sand.  I shoot at ready mix yard with 100+ tons pile.  Arrows go in and the last 5 inches stick out.

just an idea, but when i practice long shots i use a judo points. this way you dont need a peice of plywood. The arrow will just stick in the ground. the judo point wont let it go all the way into the ground. Another way to practice is to walk through the woods with a judo point and use anything as a target. a stump, a stick, a spot on the ground, or even rabbits and squirls. this pervents costly broken and lost arrows.

replace your backstop with a piece of old carpet hanging loose except at the top where you hang it it gives enough that your arrow will not penetrate completely---I miss a lot
