Most of us know IBO is a joke when we compare to reality.  Accessories and realistic arrows greatly reduce the speeds.  My 60# Guardian @ 29" is IBO at 310.  I've recently chronoed my easton axis at 261 and my Maxima's at 275.  Is this a typical variance?  I know there are several factors, I'm just curious what kind of speeds you guys get out of your equipment...

I'm not a speed freak by any means.  I enjoy the physics of the equipment...I realize that 200fps will pump right through a deer as easily as 275.  I'm just curious what numbers other equipment comes up with!

Those are great speeds with 60# at 29". Not sure what your arrows weigh, but you could realisticly shoot a 300 grain arrow at that set up, but I would recommend a 350 to 375, which may be where you are at now.

I shoot a 415 grain arrow, 66#, 29" draw, out of a Drenaline at about 282fps.

You can run, but your gonna leave a blood trail!

60# with 29" out of a Bowtech Guardian shooting 261 and 275 isn't bad. It has more to do with your draw weight than with your arrow weight at the point. Obviously the weight of the arrow is a factor, but you have to figure that IBO ratings on all bows are set for 70# and 29" so you are losing 10-15FPS right there with being 10# lighter on the draw weight. As for your weight on the arrow, if you are shooting 350 grains, its ok but would be more kenetic energy if you got closer to 375 or 400gr but that would also drop your speed a little if you aren't shooting that heavy of an arrow now. Take your speed and weight of both arrows and figure which one has more kenetic energy, to do that use this equation. (Speed x Speed x Weight)/450240 and that will give you your kenetic energy. To use a mechanical head most manufacturers claim you need atleast 55# of kenetic energy to make that head open properly. Take my setup from last year, Mathew's Switchback LD at 28", 70#, with a 380gr arrow and I was hitting 65# of kenetic energy. 278FPS x 278FPS x 380gr = 29367920 / 450240 = 65.22# which is more than enough to kill any large game animal in the United States, and also enough to successfully open a mechanical head if I had chose to shoot one instead of the G5 Striker.
