How many treestand hunters practice from an elevated position (ladder, roof, etc)? I noticed that shooting downward will cause the arrow to hit high. I always hunt from a tree stand so I guess I should adjust my pins to be dead on from an elevated position. Anyway, just thought I would mention this because it could mean the difference between a clean kill or a high shot.

whether you shoot down or up at the deer the shot will be high....

I don' t know anyone that doesn't shoot out of the stand before going out for the real thing

Yes, I practice from elevation. I have an elevated blind on the edge of my back field that is good for practice. I also use a pendulum sight. Once it is set, I am good to go from various distances and heights using only the one pin. This is a system I have used for many years. I have a 3-D  target in my back yard so I can go out on my back deck which is slightly elevated  and take a shot whenever I want. Occasionally I move the target so I get some different distances and angles. I usually take only one or two shots which is more like actual hunting conditions.

If it wouldn't a been good
I wouldn't a done it.

I go to the shooting range and they a course threw the woods is good practise for the hunt it has targets set up like as you would be hunting. they even has a ladder stand that has different highth to shoot at. it helps to prepare for thehunt.

We just started doing so this year... One person goes up in a climber and one person stays on the ground and moves a 3d target around in various places and retrieves arrows. We only do one shot per location at a time so it's alot like the real deal. I am very happy doing this because i realized i hate my peep site in low light conditions and got rid of it. I think its very good practice.

I shoot off my roof and also built a nice big practice stand up north that can fit 3-4 guys.

Pendelum sights are the best for stands. If you dont have a pendelum sight then mark distances from the bottom of your stand to different points. Say there is a tree 30 yards from the bottom of the tree your in. When your in the stand to shoot to that tree shoot as if it were 30 yards and not the distance you see from the stand.

It moves as you move the bow, if i go down to shoot at 10 yards the pendelum moves outward.
If i shoot say at 35 yards the pendelum moves inward.

But remember i have to sight it in on the ground at 25 yards dead on!!! Then i can get up in the stand and shoot. In so many words>>>>>Fine tune it!!!

No Guessing on the yardage, just let it fly!!!!
