I shoot a Matthews Switchback. I say it is the best bow for me. Thats not saying its the best bow for everyone.Thre are a lot of great bows on the market today ,this is the bow that I personnally like .Shoot 10 different quality bows, ask 10 different hunters, and you may get 10 different answers to your question. It all depends on each hunter's personal likes and dislikes.

If you have a question about 1 bow in particular, then ask about that bow and you still may get 10 different answers. But the answers will be directed at that brand and model.
Matthews

I have a Mathews Conquest II. It was the only Mathews bow that came close to having enough draw length for me. I have a near 80" wingspan so my choices in bows is very limited. The Conquest II just barely makes it and truthfully is a bit short, but I make do. That aside, I really do like the bow. It is fast, quiet and I have taken taken several deer and a couple coyotes with it in the few years I have had it.
Before the Mathews, I had (still have) a PSE Nova. This one I also bought because it was the only bow in the shop that had enough draw length. In fact, it was left handed and I had to have the riser changed over to right hand for me. This one is probably not much like your Nova, Tubby. Mine was new in the mid 1980s.
Before the PSE, I had a Bear Whitetail Hunter. It was my first compound bow and was quite an adjustment from shooting recurves all my life. This old model, one of the early compounds had about a half dozen wheels and rollers on it and was difficult to keep tuned. I once missed a nice doe when my arrow went diving up and down like a porpoise and flew harmlessly over the deer's back. I thought, "What the he!! just happened"? I discovered one of the wheels had come loose and the bow was totally out of tune.
Before the Whitetail Hunter there was a succession of recurves, most of which I had until a couple years ago. I sold and gave them away when we were moving to our new house. The most recent of those was a Bear Minute Man take-down bow. I liked that bow because I could unstring it, break it down and stow it in a backpack for hiking in or out.
The best bow is the one you personally pick out for reasons that you decide are important. It is the bow you become proficient with and have confidence in. I refer to my Mathews as a WMD (weapon of mass destruction). It has proven deadly to deer and I even took two deer a couple seasons ago within five minutes of each other. That is a real confidence builder.

If it wouldn't a been good
I wouldn't a done it.

I had a chance to shoot the "gander mountain" bowtech hunter last week....

of course the sales person hyped it up but man  o man...it was soooooo much smoother than anything else there.....there was absolutely NO recoil....I shot the bowtech black ice after that  and It was pretty smooth as well!

then shot TRUTH and then the Illusion

mad me realize by shooting all of these is the way to go before putting hard earned money into it

I am going to test shoot a ROSS this week and with any luck drain my wallet on one of the above within the year!!

Two thumbs up for the ROSS Cardiac! picked one up two months ago and love it. Its a matter of what feels best for the individual shooter though. I shot all the new bows on the market this year and last year trying to find the best one for me. They all were great but the ROSS was awesome.

07' Whisper Creek Innovator Pro, QAD Drop away, and G5 Optix.  Bowtech has had some great views in trade magizines, personally never shot one.  I personally picked the Whisper Creek Innovator Pro  over the Mathews Switchback.(Sure I'll get some feedback on that decsion).  This will be my first season with it, so far on the range I'm satisfied.  Before this I shot a Fred Bear TRX32 and loved it.
