For you crossbow guysand gals
Finally received permission to use a crossbow from state game commission. I found a used Horton "stag" with scope and loading tool cheap. Went to buy arrows (bolts} for it. {It only came with one) and they were 40.00 for six no frills horton bolts. I decided instead to make my own. I have a sufficent amount of the proper spine shafts and inserts. My questions are;

1- How do i index my fletching tool with flat nocks?
2- Can i use 4" vanes instead of the 5"?
3- Is there any way that i can reduce the noise this bow makes when shot?
4- Can i use fixed broadheads with this setup?
5- Where do i buy the flat nocks?
6- Should i lube the rail the bolt rides on?
I would much prefer to keep  using my regular bow but its getting harder to pull for me and i am down to the minimum 45 ibs.
Any help would be appreciated.

I also shoot a crossbow what I found best is I switched to the Carbon Exspress bolt which quited it down some.The bolt's are 22" long with a Cabela's Lazer Supreme 125 grain fixed broadhead work's best in my crossbow.The nock's on these bolt's are half moon.I've also bought the bolt's from Cabela's which were around 36.00 for 6 then you also got shipping an handleing included.Cabela's also sell's a fletching tool which does crossbow bolt's to you'll find that in their archery cataloge.Me I prefer the 5" vane over the 4",5 " will fly more steady at longer yardage.As far as reduceing the noise the speed these new crossbow's put out the air is let out of the game before they realize what is going on.I lube the rail on every 2nd or 3rd shot a wise idea save's on string serveing

40 bucks for six bolts? Thats cheap I pay anywhere between 50 - 60/.5 doz , as for where to get flat nocks Basspro has them and I don`t think there is any solution to quiet down a crossbow . I own a Tenpoint Titan and it sounds like a cannon when fired and I was told that there isn`t any known noise dampenning system for them. J.D what type of lube do you use? Graphite or wax?

I use Horton's rail lube it's in a sillcone,I smear it on the rail an apply some on the string serveing where it will ride down the rail.

Limbsaver does make stick-on silencers that work well. If your bow is a split limb they make them for that also. I've used them on crossbows and they do work.

Those $40/6 bolts work pretty well but like you said gets expensive after a while.
I bought a dozen Carbon Express "Cross Bolt" 22" that work well and figured that I'd just re-fletch them as needed but they have the half-moon nock so that I can index it.
As far as the broadhead, consider Trophy Ridges's Bunker Buster.
