Was showing me bow to my uncle, just wanted to see if he could pull it back. Obviously he could of, but I didnt think he would dry fire it!!! So pissed... What do you guys think is gonna happen? Should I be mad at all? This is the first time the bow has ever been dry fired, and I bought the bow about 3 weeks ago brand new from bassproshop. The bows a Reflex Growler, and I sure hope nothing happens to something I put a lot of money into. Anthything I should check for or look at to make sure everythings fine? I heard the string can come off dry firing and thank god it didnt, I just hope nothing else bad happened to it.

I would recommend to not get up in a treestand with it unless you get a thorough check or you are using a really good safety harness no matter what!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a string break one time when I was just aiming at my target bag and it knocked me out cold. One end of the string came up and over my back and gave me a 12" cut and the other end of the cable cut my leg about 4". I guess it hit me hard enough in the back that it just was lights out for me. I just woke up in my backyard and wondered where the heck I was, and why the hell I had a compound bow in my hand??? lol Not trying to freak you out but this was just 3 days after my brother dry-fired mine. I am just lucky I decided to take a few practice shots before I got up in my stand!

If it has anything to do with your safety, get it checked for sure. If you have any question about it in your mind, get it checked.

Get it checked, but like anytime someone works on your bow, make sure the guy knows what he is doing. I used to work at basspro and they sent me to work in the archery department and wanted me to restring bows, and I had no idea what I was doing. So just because someone works at a big department store like that does not mean they know anything about bows.

Dry firing a compound bow can and will put hair line fracture in the limbs.... yes, even with limb savers. limb savers only reduce the recoil and dampen the sound. You should really have the bow checked out. I have never had anything like this happen to me, however one of the guys I work with has a NASTY  scare from a string breaking on him.

I hope all checks out good for you.

Keep us posted!

I have a friend that dry fired his bow back when we were young and dumb.. He thought that it was ok and did it 2 times in a row.. Then he put the bow away , the next day he went hunting and a doe came in he tried to get a shot and when he released the limbs shattered and the lower limb smashed him in the knee cap leaving him with one hell of a lump and scar on his knee.  He missed the rest of the bow season   SO MY ADVICE IS GET IT CHECKED AND NEVER DRY FIRE A BOW

ewok and bertman, now is that the best advice you both could give a fellow hunter.
Put yourselves in his or his uncles place.

_junior,
The best thing to do is take it to a pro shop if you haven't already.I don't think your uncle dry-fired your bow with the intension to later hurt you. I understand your anger with your uncle but please put safety first.

my cousin dry fired my 2 week old PSE XForce this past season. the string came off of the cams, the cables got caught and chewed up in the cams, and i had to pay for everything because the warranty doesnt cover user error. my cousin is just lucky that i am a nice guy, cuz i didnt make him pay a dime.
