| How high is high enough?
The stand I purchased this year for bow hunting is 17ft at the seat. I watch the hunting shows on tv and it looks like these folks are 30+ feet in the air .
Am I too close to the ground? How high in the tree or tripod do you sit? | | To Authenticate the posting experience, this post may contain impact shots. | |

Tree Stand #8 hanging on for deer life

| | They probably do go higher because they put two guys in the tree with hang on stands and probably climbing sticks rather than a regular ladder stand, butwide angle lenses tend to alter the perception of spacial relationships (makes it look higher) (beside that - if they fall out of the tree it's work-comp.) 10 to 12 ft can work if you have multiple trees for concealment. Get out there in the one and only tree in an empty field and there is no way to get high enough. The deer's perspective changes as they get closer to you --- the angle of view from their vantage point is what makes them either see you or not a deer at 10 ft might not see you in a 10 ft stand and a deer at 500 yds might knock you off at the top of a nine story ladder truck. Their eyes see better side to side than up and down but blow a call and give them a reason to look your way and you better be still. I learned that when a buck at 500 yds knocked me off as I reached back to pick up my bow. To get the big ones in close everything has to be right sent control, a sent they find interesting, the wind, camo stand placement, the right call etc that is what makes it so challenging add to that the sharp trajectory that arrows have and you can have fond memories of the arrow sailing neatly over or under the biggest buck you ever saw. Or who knows maby you will get him this time. GAME ON | | THUNDERHEAD 125 ))))==========> THE BUCK STOPS HERE | |

| | I usually sit anywhere from 15 to 35 feet up depending on where the cover is on the tree. | | Only the dead have seen the end of war. Plato | |

| | When I bow hunt I am in my climer and I hunt any where from 18 to 25 ft. It all depends on where I hunt and how much cover I have. less cover on a trail I want to hunt the higher I go. I have a 40 ft pull rope that I pull my bow or gun up and have at times been that high in a good stright pine tree. | | | |

| | My tripod is ten foot and my ladder stand is twelve. I feel like I have had good success with those heights, plus I am afraid of heights. I can't stand being too high up there. | | Crystal City, Zavala County, Deep South Texas | |
