| I say, shop around until you find what you really want. Shoot a few different ones, then save the extra money and buy something you know you are going to really like.
Thats what I did, and now I am shooting a Mathews Swithcback XT.
Love it!!!! Worth every penny. | | May the hunting Gods be with you.

| I'd agree with what Warren and Grimreaper say. At $400, you're looking at a midrange bow. You could easily find one on ebay that's 1-2 years old for that range. It will be a considerable step up from what you have. It's amazing how the archery equipment technology changes. It's not like the bow is completely changed year for year. The way they depreciate, you'd think that 2-year old bows are equivalent to an at-latl (native american spear thrower).
I saved fro my new bow. It was worth every penny...quiet and smooth. Quite an increase in performance!

| I have been in the market myself for the same thing and set my limit at $400. Remarkably, I found the Bear Instinct over at BassPro for $350 right now. I have not read one single bad review of the bow. Do any of yall have any input on it? I am currently shooting an old PSE Pacer (yes I know its old and clunky compared to what most of yall have, but it still works ) Ill never get rid of it since I took my first ever with it, Im just looking to upgrade as I finally feel the need to after getting several to come within 30 yds of me numerous times, but never any closer (And I wouldnt dare try anything over a 20 yd shot with my Pacer) | | | |

| Hurricane Jay,
I don't shoot other bows so I can't help you there. I find it's better to avoid temptation . Go to archery talk. On their evaluation page, they did a comprehensive evaluation of several bows that are on the market this year. After seeing their methods, you'd probably agree that they did much more thorough examination of this year's bow class than most of us would ever do.
I'll make it easier to find: http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=509567
I think they go out of their way to be positive and as objective as possible. Good luck.

| | I have also heard really good things about the instict. If you spend $300 or $1000 on a bow they will both kill deer the same. Unless you are in competative 3-d shooting you are probably better off with a proven but cheaper model. | | | |

| | I would look for a used matthews hoyt or bowtech in the right draw length. Hoyt pro-tech has an adjustable for length cam. I shoot Matthews Drenalin but I have killed deer with a Hoyt Pro-tech and a Trykon and PSE Spyder. Bear makes some nice lower price packages but I prefer a Trophytaker rest and bright sights and my favorite bows were Pro-tech and the Drenalin both have been very consistent. | | THUNDERHEAD 125 ))))==========> THE BUCK STOPS HERE | |

| | i shoot a reflex highlander and i consider it a nice quiet..fast bow..As far as price goes it was within what i consider mid range..It was either that bow or a pse for same money but the reflex was lighter and much better as far as my personal likes in a bow.. | | | |

| | I was in the same situation. I could kill deer just fine with my old bow but wanted an upgrade. I went with the Bowtech Tomkat package. I have a 30" draw and with everything on it I am still just over 300fps. It's not the quietest of all bows but it is very forgiving since it have an 8.75" brace height and comes with a whisker biscuit, quiver, black gold sight, hush kit with silencers, basically everything but the arrows and if you talk them down you can get them in the upper 400 range brand new with lifetime limb warranty. Can't go wrong with a Bowtech either. | | "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." Benjamin Franklin | |
